What are your buttons made of?

Our buttons are crafted from art glass, dichroic glass (shifts color depending on the direction light hits it), mica and glass powders. Combinations of these items are heated to 1500 degrees fahrenheit to soften or melt them. They are then fused together according to the patterns, shapes and sizes determined by Terrie's design. The result is brilliantly reflective buttons with a distinctive shine, sparkle and depth. (See FAQ P. 2)

Can they break?

Our buttons are durable and wear well, but they do need the same gentle care you would give to ceramic and other fine quality buttons.

Can the buttons go into a washer or dryer?

We suggest the garment be hand washed and air dried. If you like, you may place button protectors over them and use your washer's gentle cycle.

Can the buttons be dry cleaned?

No. We recommend you remove the buttons before dry cleaning.

Helpful hint: Sew these buttons on your garment with embroidery thread. It is strong, quick to sew on and quick to remove.

Are the buttons heavy?

Our 5/8" and 3/4" buttons go well on light to medium weight garments such as cotton and lightweight wool shirts, dresses, slacks, light jackets, coats and sweaters. The 7/8" and 1" buttons work well on medium to heavy weight garments such as wool or denim jackets and coats, bulky sweaters and purses. Buttons are used on quilts, pillows, hand-made books and dolls. The larger the button the heavier the fabric needs to be for it to stay in place.

Do you have examples of how I can use your buttons?

Yes. Check the Uses pages on this web site. We show our buttons on knit, sewn and woven clothing and purses. Also shown are unique uses such as in beadwork, wire wrapped, and silver art clay jewelry, on quilts and as closures for scrapbooks and journals.

If I lose a button, can I order a replacement?

It is likely we will have buttons in stock that will blend well with buttons previously purchased. However, remember that each button is handcrafted. Glass colors vary just like yarn and cloth dye lots do. Sometimes glass manufacturers discontinue colors. With any handcrafted button it is always a good idea to order one extra and sew it inside the gament so it is available if needed.

May I return buttons?

Your satisfaction is important to us.
